The Thank You Walk
What if part of our self care and gratitude during these tense times was a "thank you" walk? I just heard a webinar that is part of my remote learning PD from Jon Gordon. Most of us have been taking walks to clear our heads, get fresh air, exercise etc for decades, but this title adds new dimension and purpose. Each time we take ourselves for it is a "thank you" walk. We might be thanking ourselves for having the very ability to be on that walk. Perhaps thanking ourselves for the wisdom to go on a walk. It could be as simple as thanking our feet and legs for always carrying us through our day. Most important for our well being is being able to express gratitude for even the smallest of tasks right now. We all seem to be focused more on our hands than ever, but what about after we wash them expressing gratitude for the hundreds of tasks they do all day long without complaint. With so many places on Long Island to walk, we could take many "thank you" walks without repeating a location. When we are
calm and centered we can help everyone around us be more calm and centered. One walk can reverberate through our entire family and circle of friends. Gratitude is powerful that way. It may seem ephemeral but it can truly enhance all your connections. Only one way to find out and that is to try. For now, perhaps it is best to walk in a park that is sparsely populated. No matter how many people are there, the gratitude is always present.
